The Ministry of Transport does not plan to introduce rights for SIM drivers
There are currently no plans to introduce requirements for obtaining a driver's license for users of personal mobility equipment (SIM). This was announced on November 21 by Nikolai Cherednichenko, Acting Deputy Director of the Department of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, in the Federation Council.
"The Russian Ministry of Transport unequivocally supports the introduction of additional regulation of means of individual mobility <...>. So far, there is no question that they (SIM drivers) should have rights," TASS quoted him as saying.
Cherednichenko clarified that the agency, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has made changes to the roadmap for SIM regulation, according to which all devices, including kicksharing and private ones, are subject to mandatory registration.
In the future, it is also planned to discuss raising the minimum age for driving a SIM from 14 to 16 years old when driving on public roads. There will be no age restrictions in recreational areas such as parks and recreation areas.\
Yesterday, Russian Deputy Transport Minister Alexei Shilo sent a letter to regional authorities urging them to promote electric scooter rental services rather than create additional barriers to their development. The ministry stressed that the organization of SIM traffic should comply with the law and be more adapted to the conditions of the road situation.
