- More than 30 thousand plants were planted in Moscow as part of the "Gardening Together" campaign.
An action "Gardening together" was held in Moscow, in which residents planted more than 30 thousand cold-resistant perennial plants. This was reported in the Department of territorial executive authorities of the capital.
According to the agency, the work took place in all administrative districts.
"The action brought together thousands of active citizens — volunteers, public advisers, young parliamentarians and all those who wanted to contribute to the greening of their district," said Dmitry Presnov, head of the Department of Territorial Executive Authorities of Moscow.
In particular, in the Northwestern Administrative District, planting took place in the park near the Gzhel Dance Theater in the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo district, and in the Northern District — in the Druzhby Park in the Levoberezhny district.
Trees and shrubs were planted, including maples, paniculate hydrangeas, gray spiraea, as well as perennials — Fassen's cottonwood, oakwood salvia, yarrow, Arends saxifrage and others. The department clarified that these are frost-resistant species adapted to the winter conditions of the metropolis.
Sergey Makarov, a participant in the campaign, Acting director of the Institute of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture of the Timiryazev Russian State Agricultural Academy, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, noted that planting plants in late autumn contributes to their successful adaptation. "Before the onset of severe frosts, perennials have time to strengthen their root system and adapt to new conditions. In spring, with the first warming, the process of growth and development of plantings will occur most smoothly and naturally," he said.
Earlier, as part of the "Flowers of Moscow" campaign, more than 25,000 potted plants used in the summer decoration of the Gardens and Flowers festival were handed over to the districts of the capital. They are now housed in public spaces, including cultural centers, kindergartens, city councils, and libraries.
