- The Serbian Foreign Ministry called the information about Vucic's alleged participation in the "human safari" an insult.
The news that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic allegedly took part in the so-called "human safaris" during the siege of Sarajevo is not true. This was announced on November 21 by the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
The head of the department, Marko Djuric, said that such accusations are exclusively "unfounded insinuations" that are not confirmed by either judicial or investigative authorities. The minister noted on the social network X (ex. Twitter), the spread of false information is a targeted campaign organized to damage the leadership of Serbia, undermine the country's international authority and destabilize the situation in the region.
According to Djuric, Vucic is obliged to go to court, where he can demand large compensation from those who "invent and spread such shameful stories."
"Unsubstantiated claims about alleged "human safaris" represent a serious affront to the dignity of the victims and a blatant denial of the efforts of responsible actors in the region to build lasting trust, mutual respect and an atmosphere of constructive cooperation," the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
The British newspaper The Guardian reported on November 12 that the Milan Prosecutor's office in Italy is investigating reports of "sniper tourism" during the Bosnian War. The article claims that snipers allegedly shot "at people in the streets, including children, indiscriminately, as if it were a video game or safari," adds "Газета.Ru ".
On November 13, Izvestia reported that thanks to the materials of journalist Ezio Gavazzeni, it became known about alleged crimes committed more than 30 years ago, in the 1990s, during the Bosnian War. According to an Italian correspondent, in 1992-1996, during the siege of Sarajevo, Italian citizens paid from €80,000 to €100,000 (in terms of modern money) for the shooting of civilians.
