- Szijjarto announced the US confirmation of Hungary's exemption from sanctions against Russia
The United States has confirmed that Hungary will be exempt from the sanctions against Russian energy companies that are coming into force in accordance with the agreement between the presidents of the two countries. This was announced on November 21 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
"Our American partners have informed us that the US decisions that exempt Hungary from the imposed sanctions on oil supplies [from Russia] will come into force today," the minister said at a press conference broadcast by M1 TV channel.
He added that thanks to this agreement, the country will continue to be reliably supplied with energy resources.
On November 7, US President Donald Trump announced that it was possible to exempt Hungary from sanctions on oil from the Russian Federation. Szijjarto later said that Hungary had received indefinite exemption from US sanctions on oil and gas supplies from Russia.
