Pregnancy planning is an important and responsible stage for every couple. It is optimal to start preparing for pregnancy three to six months before planning. An adequate examination will help significantly reduce the risks to the health of the baby and the expectant mother. On November 24, Maria Bakhmetyeva, an obstetrician-gynecologist, gynecologist-endocrinologist, and a leading specialist in the Semeynaya clinic network, told Izvestia about this.

"First of all, it is necessary to reconsider the way of life. It is necessary to eliminate alcohol and smoking, ensure moderate physical activity, and normalize sleep and wakefulness. A balanced diet is also one of the key points," she said.

In addition, you should start taking certain vitamins — for example, folic acid plays a key role in preparing for pregnancy — as well as vitamin D and iodine preparations after consulting with a gynecologist.

A woman is recommended to take general clinical blood tests: a general blood test, a biochemical blood test.

If there are signs of anemia (a decrease in hemoglobin below 115 g / l), then a blood test for ferritin, vitamins B9 and B12 should be performed.

If a woman does not remember when she was vaccinated against measles and rubella, it is advisable to donate IgG antibodies to these viruses. If they are reduced, vaccination is recommended to prevent these infections during pregnancy.

"It is also necessary to take a general urine test. It is recommended to perform ultrasound of the pelvic organs to assess the condition of the uterus and ovaries and exclude diseases that may be asymptomatic, as well as ultrasound or mammography of the mammary glands," the doctor recommended.

She noted that it is very important to undergo regular cervical cancer screening. To do this, it is necessary to take an oncocytological examination from the cervix and HPV testing (PAP test).

Do not forget about the importance of seeing a dentist. The best solution is to sanitize the oral cavity, that is, it is necessary to cure caries and remove foci of inflammation before pregnancy.

Tests that must be performed by both partners: a smear for sexually transmitted infections by PCR. It is also important to take a blood test for antibodies to diseases such as hepatitis B and C (HBsAg and anti-HCV), HIV, and syphilis.

However, one of the key tests is to determine the blood type and Rh factor (if a woman's Rh factor is negative, it is necessary to clarify the Rh affiliation of the partner).

Consultation with a therapist will help in correcting lifestyle and identifying chronic diseases. If any abnormalities are detected in the tests and studies, the doctor prescribes additional diagnostics followed by therapy for these diseases.

Earlier, on September 11, the head of the Fair Russia — For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, announced an initiative to expand women's rights to maternity leave and proposed extending maternity benefits to unemployed women.
