The damage in the case of Mervaezova on embezzlement of money from the Ministry of Defense reached 9 billion rubles.

The damage in the criminal case against the former first Deputy Minister of Construction of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Yulia Mervaezova, accused of embezzling funds from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation during the construction of 14 facilities under state contracts, amounted to over 9 billion rubles. This follows from the case materials available to TASS.

The role of the ex-official was to provide an advance payment, withdraw it from accounts and cash out money using forged accounting documents in order to conceal a crime. Earlier, the damage was estimated at 5 billion rubles.

The former vice-governor of the Sverdlovsk Region faces up to 10 years in prison for fraud with utility bills.

Earlier, on September 17, a Moscow court arrested Mervaezova for two months.
