- The Law on the Protection of the Russian language in the public space of the Russian Federation will enter into force on March 1.
The law on the Protection of the Russian Language in Public Space in Russia will enter into force on March 1, 2026. This was announced on November 21 by Olga Kazakova, head of the State Duma Committee on Culture.
According to the new legislation, signage and signs in public places must be translated into Russian.
"Amendments have been made to the law on Consumer Rights Protection regarding information posted for public inspection on signs, signs, and plaques," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
Also, according to Kazakova, signs such as "open/closed", "entrance/exit", "sale", "price", "discounts", "cash register" and others must be in Russian.
In July, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin also suggested that store owners replace signs with Anglicisms and foreign borrowings without waiting for new legislation to come into force. He noted that every country should protect its native language and identity.
