The longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the shutdown, caused significantly more damage than expected, so it will take time to see signs of recovery. This was announced on November 20 by Kevin Hassett, head of the White House National Economic Council.

"The government shutdown caused much more serious damage than I think anyone expected. <...> The damage from the shutdown is real," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Hassett suggested that it may take a little time to neutralize the damage caused to the American economy — perhaps the settlement will be carried out before December of this year.

The order that put an end to the shutdown in the United States, on financing the work of the government, was signed on November 12 by the head of the White House, Donald Trump. He stated that the previously introduced measure was necessary in order to demonstrate that his office would not succumb to blackmail coming from representatives of the Democratic Party.
