- Kallas spoke about the EU's discussion of the possibility of training the Palestinian police
The European Union (EU) is discussing the possibility of leading the training of the Palestinian police and options for expanding its own mission to control checkpoints located on the borders of the Gaza Strip. This was announced on November 20 by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
"Today, the [foreign] ministers discussed options for expanding the European border checkpoint monitoring mission <...>. We also discussed the possibility that the EU police support mission would lead the training of the Palestinian police," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
Speaking after the meeting of the heads of the European Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Callas noted that France had expressed a desire to send 100 law enforcement officials to the territory of the enclave. She also stressed that currently EU staff are already involved in the coordination center located in that area. All of them, as the head of the European Diplomacy added, pay attention to humanitarian and security issues.
The Washington Post (WP) reported on November 7 that the coordination center, opened by members of the US armed Forces on behalf of the head of the White House, Donald Trump, took away from Israel the right to oversee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to maintain the truce. The article noted that the Israeli side will be given a secondary role in this matter.
