A draft banning the expulsion of foreigners who fought in the Armed Forces was submitted to the State Duma

On November 20, the Russian government submitted a bill to the State Duma, according to which it will be prohibited to expel from Russia foreign citizens who took part in hostilities as part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces). The document is posted in the Duma's electronic database.

"The bill provides for a ban on making decisions on deportation, readmission, and shortening the period of temporary stay in the Russian Federation <...> in respect of foreign citizens, stateless persons undergoing military service under contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation or military formations of the Russian Federation, as well as participants in combat operations who have served in such a service," the explanatory note says. a note.

In addition, according to the document, foreigners who participated in hostilities as part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will not be denied a temporary residence permit, a residence permit and a work permit. It will also be prohibited to cancel these documents.

Earlier, on November 10, the government commission on legislative activity approved amendments to Russian legislation, according to which a ban on the expulsion of foreign citizens serving in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and participating in military conflicts will be introduced. According to the changes, instead of administrative expulsion from the country for such foreigners, a fine of 1 thousand to 50 thousand rubles or compulsory work of up to 200 hours will be provided.

On November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a temporary procedure for granting Russian citizenship to foreigners who are participants in a special military operation (SVO). According to the decree, foreigners will be able to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation, having with them an extract from the order of dismissal from the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation or the decision of the commission.
