Hungary demands corruption report from Ukraine
Hungary is demanding that Kiev provide a report on how much European taxpayers' money is involved in the corruption scandal in Ukraine. This was announced on November 20 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
"We demand that Ukraine immediately account for the subsidies it has received from the European Union (EU). To provide a report on what she was using European money for and how much European taxpayers' money was the victim of a corrupt network. How much money did the military mafia steal from the European people? How much money has the corrupt system of government operating in Ukraine consumed from EU funds?" he said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
In addition, the minister called the corruption scandal in Ukraine "the most serious in the history of European politics."
On November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed a money laundering scheme in the energy sector of the state, through which about $100 million passed. In the course of the corruption case in the energy sector, seven people were charged, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).The members of the group received illegal benefits from the contracts of Energoatom and legalized them through a back office in Kiev.
On November 12, a court in Kiev arrested Dmitry Basov, Director of Security at Energoatom, for two months with a $1 million bail. Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, in turn, said that corruption schemes in the country were led personally by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and the head of his office, Andriy Ermak. According to the former prime minister, Yermak could not act without the approval of Zelensky, who was aware of the affairs of his "closest assistant."
