Iran, in response to the adoption by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of a resolution on access to the country's nuclear facilities, sent a notice of termination of the Cairo Agreement on cooperation between Tehran and the agency concluded in September. This was announced on November 20 by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

"Today, in an official letter to the agency's Director General [Rafael Grossi], it was announced that this agreement is no longer valid and is considered terminated," the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Telegram channel quoted him as saying.

Araqchi noted that "after the illegal actions of three European countries (Great Britain, France, Germany. — Ed.) and the United States in the UN Security Council on the return of the repealed Security Council resolutions, the agreement has actually ceased to be the basis for cooperation between Iran and the agency."

He added that the resolution undermines the authority and independence of the agency, as well as harms Tehran's cooperation with the IAEA.

"These countries, through their actions and disregard for Iran's goodwill towards cooperation (with the IAEA. They undermine the authority and independence of the agency, as well as hinder the process of interaction and cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the IAEA," Araqchi said.

On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Minister called the draft resolution on access to nuclear facilities a provocation and called on all members of the IAEA Board of Governors to oppose the draft.

Prior to that, on October 29, the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, said that the IAEA does not have and did not have information about Iran's creation of nuclear weapons. According to Grossi, Tehran has confirmed its readiness to remain within the framework of the nuclear non-proliferation regime, despite Western sanctions. On November 1, Araqchi also stated that Iran was ready for negotiations on its nuclear program, but the United States had made unacceptable demands, so the country was interested only in indirect negotiations with Washington, and direct dialogue would be impossible.

Araqchi said on November 1 that Iran was ready to negotiate on its nuclear program, but the United States had made unacceptable demands. At the same time, Araqchi clarified that the country is not interested in direct negotiations with Washington. According to the Foreign Minister, an agreement can be reached through indirect negotiations.
