- The Star reported the death of a two-year-old Russian in Malaysia after being bitten by a jellyfish
A two-year-old boy from Russia died of complications after being bitten by a jellyfish on the beach of Langkawi (Malaysia), as doctors fought for his life for five days. The newspaper The Star writes about this on November 20.
A two-year-old Russian boy who fought for life for four days after being bitten by a cubomedusa in Pantai Trang, Langkawi, died today at Sultanah Bahia Hospital.
The incident occurred on Saturday, November 15th. The boy's father, a 32-year-old IT engineer from Khabarovsk, said he would not blame anyone for what happened, but hoped that the tragedy would help draw attention to the danger posed by cubomeduses. The Russian admitted that he was stunned when rescuers were unable to provide substantial assistance to his child on the beach, the newspaper points out.
"The son was in shallow water near the shore and suddenly screamed. My wife pulled him out of the water and handed him to me. Then I went to get a rag to wipe his foot. At that moment, he stopped breathing. I tried to give him artificial respiration," the man said.
Nearby tourists came to the aid of the couple and helped them get with the child to the rescue station on the beach. They washed the boy's wound with vinegar, and then took him to the hospital. Despite the efforts of the doctors, it was not possible to save the child's life.
In August, Anatoly Tavrichesky, an oceanographer and member of the Russian Geographical Society, spoke about the invasion of deadly cross jellyfish in the Far East, which is caused by climate change. According to him, krestoviki are considered extremely dangerous — their bite can even lead to death. Tavrichesky added that the rootworm jellyfish, which lives in the Black Sea, is also dangerous.
