Ukraine has registered a decree on the extradition of fugitive corrupt officials
Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have registered a bill appealing to foreign agencies on the extradition to the country of persons suspected by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) of involvement in corruption crimes. This was reported on November 20 in the Telegram channel of the lower house of parliament.
"On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, we appeal to the governments and competent authorities of foreign countries to: track down corrupt officials who fled abroad; detain and extradite them to Ukraine," the message said.
It is noted that 41 deputies took the initiative.
On the eve of the parliament deputy Mariana Bezuglaya said the day before that the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svetlana Grinchuk fled the country amid a corruption scandal in the energy sector.
On November 10, NABU revealed a money laundering scheme in the energy sector of the state, through which about $100 million passed. In the course of the corruption case in the energy sector, seven people were charged, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).The members of the group received illegal benefits from the contracts of Energoatom and legalized them through a back office in Kiev.
On November 12, a court in Kiev arrested Dmitry Basov, Director of Security at Energoatom, for two months with a $1 million bail. On the same day, Zelensky demanded the resignation of Grinchuk, who later submitted her resignation, and Justice Minister Herman Galushchenko.
