The student hackathon, organized by the Rosneft Scientific Institute in Ufa, brought together more than 340 participants from 45 Russian cities. The competition was held in an online format as part of the company's IT Marathon, the Rosneft press service said.

During the hackathon, the teams developed a computer vision model that could automatically highlight areas with different oil well layouts on the map. "The task was to find a solution that allows you to outline the necessary segments as accurately as possible. Knowledge of the Python programming language was required to complete the task correctly," the company said. The participants had 48 hours to develop a solution.

The authors of the top ten ideas presented their projects to the jury. The first place was awarded to a team from Moscow State University, the second – from Central University, and the third — from ITMO. The special nomination was won by a team from the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. The winners were awarded from 50 to 200 thousand rubles.

"The best ideas of the hackathon participants will be used in the updated version of the RN-KIN software, which contains information about most of the company's deposits. The introduction of the new model will make it possible to achieve the maximum oil recovery coefficient during the development of new deposits," Rosneft said.

This year, the Rosneft IT Marathon included four competitions: a Student Hackathon, an Academic Tournament, the Geonavigation League, the Cup for Additive Technologies and Reverse Engineering. The winners and prize-winners will meet in December at the finals in Moscow.
