- FT predicted the inevitability of Ermak's resignation due to the corruption scandal in Ukraine
The corruption scandal in Ukraine has made the resignation of the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, inevitable. This was reported on November 19 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"The removal of Ermak, the leader of the "vertical of power", who has now become a scapegoat for disgruntled citizens, seems inevitable," the article says.
According to the authors of the article, the reaction of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to the corruption scandal was insufficient to "prevent the public and political reaction that descended on him and his government."
"Zelensky has concentrated power at the top of the state pyramid in the hands of his ubiquitous chief of staff, Andrei Ermak. Under this time—tested system, loyalty is valued above competence," the article says.
It is also noted that Zelensky needs to change his style of governing the country and stop considering rivals and independent media as traitors.
The day before, it was reported that corruption schemes in Ukraine were led personally by Zelensky and Ermak. According to former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, Ermak could not act without the approval of Zelensky, who was aware of the affairs of his "closest assistant."
On November 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed a money laundering scheme in the energy sector of the state, through which about $100 million passed. In the course of the corruption case in the energy sector, seven people were charged, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).
