"Of course, we understand that this is not enough in terms of the reaction of the international community, but there are already some concrete examples of those who turned away, apparently realizing that there is nowhere else to turn away," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
She noted that specific cases of persecution of the UOC were recorded by experts of the Geneva-based human rights organization International Justice for All and sent to the UN.
"In response (to the complaint. Seven special rapporteurs of the UN Human Rights Council have sent an official notification to the government of Ukraine, confirming the existing violation of international law," Zakharova added.
As a result, a joint statement was published on the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in connection with Kiev's persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, on October 6, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Tatiana Moskalkova, announced that she had appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, in connection with the court hearings on the termination of the activities of the Kiev Metropolia of the UOC.
