By the end of the year, 40 additional modern Moscow-2026 railcars will be purchased for the Moscow Metro, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in the MACH messenger.

According to him, after testing and running-in without passengers, the cars will arrive at the Zamoskvoretskaya line, where a large-scale upgrade of the rolling stock is underway.

"Today, the Zamoskvoretskaya Line is one of the most sought—after in the metro, with more than 800,000 passengers using it daily," Sobyanin wrote. He noted that the process of updating the train fleet of this branch, which began last year, is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. In general, the share of modern trains in the Moscow metro is expected to exceed 90% in 2030.

Sobyanin stressed that Moscow is the leader among the megacities of Europe and America in terms of the pace of renovation of metro trains. Currently, about 80% of the cars in the Moscow Metro fleet have been updated.

In May, a new depot was opened on the Zamoskvoretskaya line. Sobyanin then noted that the commissioning of the facility was the final stage in the formation of the country's largest and one of the largest complexes in Europe for the repair, maintenance and operation of subway cars.
