- The media learned about the discovery of the oldest astronomical structure in America in Peru
Peruvian archaeologists have found on the territory of their republic the oldest building in America, which was intended for observing the Sun and Moon. This was reported on November 19 by the Andina agency.
"Archaeologists have discovered an astronomical structure 1,000 years older than the famous Chanquillo Solar Observatory (built around 250 BC), considered the oldest in America, in an archaeological and astronomical complex located on the coast of the Ancash region," the material says.
Archaeologist Ivan Getsi, commenting on the find, said that it would allow researchers to rethink the understanding of the development of astronomy in Peru during the pre-Hispanic period. According to him, this building was created from stone, clay and unfired bricks using special construction methods.
Science Daily magazine reported on November 10 that scientists have managed to solve the mystery of the strange stripes found in a place called Monte Sierpe - "Snake Mountain" in the Pisco Valley, which is located in the southern part of Peru. It was noted that the lines could have been an ancient market, which later turned into a system of accounting and resource allocation under the Inca Empire. The study revealed that thousands of pits are located there for a reason: their order forms a clear system, similar in structure to the Incan kipu, a knotted cord that served to store and transmit information.
