Slovakia may file a lawsuit against the European Union (EU) over the ban on the purchase of Russian gas. This was announced on November 19 by Prime Minister Robert Fico.

"A document will be submitted to the government in which we will consider the possibility of filing a lawsuit. Everything will depend on how the European Commission [EC] behaves with its obligations to Slovakia," Fico said.

The Prime Minister also criticized the European Commission's proposal to use frozen Russian assets in the amount of 140 billion euros in favor of Ukraine, pointing out the legal risks and possible serious consequences for EU countries. Fico called on Brussels to exercise maximum political restraint, noting that such a measure would actually mean financing armaments and further prolonging the conflict.

On November 17, Tino Cavalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, said that Germany needs to return to using Russian gas and repair the Nord Stream gas pipelines. He pointed out that due to the "energy transformation and sanctions against Russia," Germany has been facing an economic recession for the third year in a row.
