- Polish Foreign Minister criticized Navrotsky for wanting to withdraw Poland from the EU
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski criticized Polish President Karol Nawrocki for calling the European Union a threat to sovereignty. His words were reported on November 19 by the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
"Poland cannot have two contradictory foreign policies. Anyone who wants to pursue a foreign policy different from that of the government will not only violate the constitution, which you have sworn faithfully to, but will also deprive Poland of its effectiveness and prevent the realization of its interests. Under the authority of the Prime Minister, I declare that if you speak in an anti-European spirit, then you do not represent Poland's position, but only your own and your office," Sikorski said.
According to him, the country's withdrawal from the EU poses a number of problems.
"You don't like the EU, so I'll tell you what happens the day after Poland loses its membership. It would not only be poorer, but also less secure, isolated, and more vulnerable to incursions. Think about the consequences of your words. You are preparing the psychological and political ground for leaving the EU. If you want to achieve this, say it clearly, and do not invent threats to sovereignty," the country's foreign minister said.
Prior to that, on November 12, Navrotsky announced the beginning of work on changing the country's constitution. He promised that the draft of the new constitution "will definitely be an attempt to systematize what is happening in Poland," since the current laws, according to him, have been regularly violated over the past two years. At the same time, the head of state did not specify the specific planned changes, limiting himself to the general wording.
