The fighting in Ukraine remains the main global risk to nuclear security. This was announced on November 19 by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

"Today, the main risk to nuclear safety remains the <conflict> in Ukraine. The fact that there has not been a nuclear incident there yet does not mean that it cannot happen in the future," Grossi said.

He also called the issue of a long-term solution to the problem of cooling water at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) still relevant. According to the head of the IAEA, it is necessary to find a long-term solution for cooling the water used at nuclear power plants.

Earlier, on November 14, Grossi said that together with Russia, they had managed to overcome the "dangerous situation" at the NPP.

Prior to that, on November 7, Grossi reported that the IAEA had agreed on a local ceasefire at the nuclear power plant for repairs. According to the head of the agency, the imposed ceasefire regime will allow work to begin on restoring power supply from the Ferroalloy-1 substation to the Ukrainian energy system.
