The expert explained the procedure for paying salaries in December and January

Salary payments in December 2025 will be carried out normally, and the holidays in January 2026 will not lead to a reduction in employee salaries. This was announced by State Duma Deputy Nikita Chaplin in an interview with Izvestia.

On the eve of the New Year holidays, the parliamentarian explained the procedure for calculating wages and stressed that the December schedule remains unchanged and must comply with the requirements of labor legislation. According to him, the payment of wages in December will be carried out as usual, that is, at least twice a month, as required by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. He noted that employers are required to complete the calculations before leaving for the New Year holidays, since the deadline for paying salaries for December is the last working day before the holidays, which, according to him, guarantees citizens a New Year's Eve without financial worries.

— There will be no reduction in wages in January. The number of working days in January is indeed less, but this will not affect the employees receiving the salary portion," Chaplin explained.

He clarified that the January advance may be lower than usual, since it is formed for the days actually worked. However, as Deputy Chaplin emphasized, this difference disappears with the final calculation at the end of the month.

— The advance payment for the first half of January may actually be less than usual, since it is paid only a few business days in advance. However, when the final payment is made at the end of the month, this is fully compensated. In accordance with Article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, holidays cannot serve as a basis for a salary reduction," the deputy noted.
