The Skyranger 35 anti-drone systems are a modern anti-aircraft vehicle mounted on a tracked platform with high cross-country capability and bullet protection. This was stated to Izvestia on November 19 by the director of the Museum of the Air Defense Forces, retired Colonel Yuri Knutov, commenting on the supply of this equipment by the German defense concern Rheinmetall to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

According to him, the system is equipped with an active phased array radar and 360-degree electronic scanning.

"The 35mm revolver cannon provides an extremely high rate of fire, reaching thousands of rounds per minute, which creates a dense stream of fire. Projectiles with a programmable fuse are also an important element of the system," the expert noted.

Knutov explained that before firing the projectiles, the detonation distance is set, so that the target can be hit by fragments without a direct hit. He noted that several such projectiles are enough to disable a small swarm of drones.

The military expert drew attention to the fact that the first five or six installations were transferred to Ukraine for testing purposes, although Germany has not yet adopted the complex for its own armament. The delivery, he said, is designed to test the combat effectiveness of the system and identify possible shortcomings before mass production begins.

"As for the special military operation, so far the supply is too small to say that it may be of fundamental importance for the use of our unmanned vehicles. I believe that now, given that our tactics are constantly changing and, accordingly, the scheme of combat use is changing, we will be able to deceive these installations and disable them. We'll find a way to hit them," the source concluded.

On the same day, Rheinmetall announced that it would transfer additional anti-Skyranger 35 UAV systems to Ukraine. Payment for the supplies will be made by one of the EU countries at the expense of funds received from frozen Russian assets.

Earlier, on October 10, a German concert supplied the Skyranger 35 to the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the expense of frozen Russian assets while financing arms supplies from one of the EU countries.
