Interest in gaming technologies continues to grow in Russia, and video games are becoming not just entertainment, but a full-fledged resource for learning and future profession. Anton Vasiliev, director of the Hexlet IT College, told Izvestia on November 21 about how a passion for games can develop into a career path and what new professions have appeared within the industry.

"Game Development is a multibillion—dollar, technologically complex industry that is in dire need of qualified personnel. Already today, we can see how the labor market within game development is fragmented into increasingly narrow and complex specializations. In addition to programmers and 3D artists familiar to the industry, professions that almost no one had heard of five years ago are coming to the fore. For example, a game designer of virtual and augmented realities," the expert explained, stating that such a specialist should understand the user's psychophysiology and ensure comfortable immersion in a synthetic environment.

In addition, the expert said that esports is now being formed as a full-fledged professional field. He explained that an esports athlete requires the same qualities as a traditional athlete — the ability to think strategically, react quickly, work in a team and withstand high psychological stress. According to him, an extensive structure of specialists has already been formed around the players — from coaches and sports psychologists to commentators, managers and marketers, which turns the industry into a complex ecosystem with wide career opportunities.

Vasiliev is sure that it is possible to determine the potential of a child by how he interacts with game content. If a teenager begins to analyze the mechanics of the game, to talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the characters, to be interested in the arrangement of levels or to try to create their own projects, this is the first sign of professional interest. The expert noted that the transition from passive game consumption to active creative interaction is the main signal that passion can become a future profession.

"To decide on a specific career direction related to video games, it is recommended to rely on trial and error and actively try yourself in various professional roles. Fortunately, the gaming industry is still a fairly accessible field for beginners. The child should try different formats. For example, you can create a simple level, write a small script, work with a 3D editor, or assemble a mini-game in a construction kit. It is his internal response to a particular type of activity that will be the main indicator," Vasiliev concluded.

In April, Roskomnadzor called for finalizing the draft law on the regulation of computer games. According to the head of the department, Andrey Lipov, labeling games will not be enough, for example, in the case of their mobile versions.
