The forecaster named the reasons for the red dawn in Moscow and denied the connection with bad weather.

On November 19, Muscovites observed a bright red dawn in the capital. The reason for this color is due to the refraction of sunlight in moisture particles in the atmosphere and does not indicate the approach of inclement weather. This was stated to Izvestia on November 19 by Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency.

"Depending on the humidity, dawn can be a little brighter, but everything is in pink tones, this is due to the refraction of light in particles of either water or supercooled water, so there is nothing unusual about this," the expert explained.

The forecaster also stated that the widespread belief that the red dawn portends a deterioration in the weather is not true. According to her, such a folk sign refers more to the sunset.

"It used to be said that if the sunset is red, it means to the wind, and the wind always means a change in the weather. But I personally do not know any research that a pink sunset or a red sunrise portends a deterioration in the weather. On the contrary, it's just improving now because atmospheric pressure is rising," Pozdnyakova said.

Speaking about the seasonal features of the phenomenon, the forecaster said that the saturation of the color of dawn is determined mainly by the level of humidity in the eastern regions, where the sun rises. She explained that the day before the temperature in Moscow had already dropped below zero, while in Pavlovsky Posad the transition to negative values was just beginning. Because of this, higher humidity and a higher proportion of the liquid phase remained in those areas, which enhanced the effect of coloring the sky.

On the same day, the Hydrometeorological Center reported that it was cloudy, mostly without precipitation, with ice in places — this weather awaits residents of the capital region on Wednesday, November 19. The air temperature in Moscow will range from 0 to +2 degrees during the day. At night, the thermometer will drop to -3. Atmospheric pressure will be 749-751 mmHg.
