The import of new passenger cars in Russia fell by 64%
In the first 10 months of 2025, 290,000 new passenger cars were imported to Russia, which is 64% less than in the same period last year. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on November 19.
According to the expert, the reasons for the strong decrease in imports were a decrease in the country's car market (-20%), large stocks of last year's cars on sale, as well as an increase in assembly volumes in Russia. Of the total volume of imports by individuals (with preferential recycling), slightly more than a third of new cars (36%) were imported.
The import of new cars from China decreased by 68%, to 210 thousand units. At the same time, China accounts for 72.5% of the total supply, the expert estimated. Transit through Kyrgyzstan decreased by 52.5%, to 32.5 thousand units (11.2%).
South Korea and Belarus account for 4.3% of the total volume (about 12.5 thousand cars). The top five exporting countries also include Kazakhstan (3.5%), from where 10,000 new passenger cars have been imported to Russia since the beginning of the year. Tselikov also noted that the share of new cars with an engine capacity exceeding 160 hp in total imports is almost 70%.
The day before, it was reported that in October 2025, Russians bought 653 thousand used passenger cars. This is 18% more than a month earlier, and 7.9% higher than the result of October last year. The Lada 2107 sedan remains the most popular model among used passenger cars in Russia. In October, Russians purchased 13.9 thousand Vaz sevens.
