Timur Mindich, a runaway Ukrainian businessman who is suspected of involvement in a corruption scandal in his country, was not the main beneficiary of the conspiracy, although he served as a supervisor there. On Tuesday, November 18, Ruslan Magameddrasulov, head of the detective department of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions, told the Ukrainian edition of "Public".

"Mindich was the manager <...> in the team of [Ukrainian] oligarch [Igor] Kolomoisky. As far as I know, during the management of Kvartal-95, he met with the team that later partially became the government in Ukraine. <...> Given the scale, impact and depth of the implementation of corruption schemes in the relevant authorities, it can be concluded that there are beneficiaries without whose political will these processes could not have been implemented," he said.

The businessman, as the investigator arrested by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) emphasized, possessed business skills and abilities, thanks to which he was able to implement illegal multi-level schemes both in the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Defense of his state.

Magameddrasulov admitted that he linked his arrest and that of his father specifically to the Midich case, since during the data collection he had to interact with high-ranking representatives of the SBU and document the identified schemes to identify crimes. He, who has relevant contacts, was asked to take up the case by colleagues from another NABU unit.

The money laundering scheme, through which about $100 million passed, was disclosed by NABU on November 10. The office of the organization that legalized illegally obtained money was located in the center of Kiev, although a significant part of the operations, as noted, were carried out outside Ukraine.

On November 17, former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller, commenting on the corruption scandal developing in Ukraine, said that his country had "made a fool of itself" if it had helped Mindich escape. He added that if this is true, then this cannot be considered the naivety of the Polish authorities, but rather their act should be regarded as complicity in the largest corruption scandal.
