- In Ukraine, they announced the EU's interference in the investigation of the corruption scandal
The European Union (EU) countries are preventing the investigation of a corruption scandal involving the entourage of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. This was stated on November 18 by Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy in his Telegram channel, criticizing the meeting of the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova with the head of the office of the Ukrainian president Andriy Ermak.
In her Facebook post (part of Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), the diplomat noted that the EU "firmly supports Ukraine in its struggle and reforms." So, according to Sharia, the diplomat "literally attacked" the detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), saying that the investigation into Zelensky's entourage had become too public.
"The detectives were simply discouraged by this pressure and the harshness of her hitting," Schary wrote.
He claims that after publishing materials that revealed a $100 million money laundering scheme in the energy sector and Ermak's involvement, Maternova "immediately met" with him, and then published a photo together, demonstrating that "Ermak had nothing to do with it."
The journalist claims that the motives of what is happening lie in the "political assignment of the EU," which fears the consequences of a deeper investigation.
"Isn't it because if the investigation continues, <...> the leads will lead a little further, beyond the territory of Ukraine? It's just a guess," he concludes.
On November 10, NABU revealed a money laundering scheme in the country's energy sector, through which about $100 million passed. Seven people were charged in the case of corruption in the energy sector, including businessman Timur Mindich (he is called the head of the criminal scheme).
On November 12, a court in Kiev arrested Dmitry Basov, Director of Security at Energoatom, for two months with a $1 million bail. On the same day, Zelensky demanded the resignation of Ukrainian Energy Minister Svetlana Grinchuk and Justice Minister German Galushchenko. Grinchuk later submitted her resignation.
On November 18, Zelensky's entourage advised him to also dismiss the head of the office, Andrei Ermak. It was noted that Ermak himself convinces the president that Igor Kolomoisky (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) may be behind the corruption scandal.
On the same day, the court arrested former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexei Chernyshov. According to the decision, he was arrested until January 16, 2026 inclusive. Bail has also been set for release from custody — 51.6 million hryvnias (about $ 1.2 million).
