Wildberries & Russ denied the benefits of marketplaces from discounts
The Wildberries marketplace reacted to the proposal to introduce taxation on customer discounts. This was announced to Izvestia on November 18 by the press service of the United Wildberries & Rus Company.
"We do not understand how it is possible for the authors of the application to pay taxes from discounts, that is, from the income that the marketplaces did not actually receive," said a company representative.
The press service stressed that marketplaces are among the largest taxpayers in the country, and the tax burden on their income is higher than that of offline retailers. The company explained that the discount is a direct benefit to the consumer, which allows him to save on goods, and not the income of the trading platform.
According to the representative of the company, discounts are provided at the expense of the marketplace as part of the loyalty program with the bank and have no effect on the income that the seller will receive. In his opinion, discounts make products more attractive to customers, contribute to the growth of sales and incomes of manufacturers, and hence their tax base.
The head of Sberbank, German Gref, said on November 18 that marketplaces had underpaid about 1.5 trillion rubles to the budget in 2025 due to discount programs. According to him, the current price incentive mechanisms create non-market competitive conditions and allow large online platforms to save on taxes.
