Over the past day, 271 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 37 people were killed and 308 injured. 24 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on November 18 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

11 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, however, 15 road users, including one child, required medical assistance. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 119 accidents, 62 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 57 outside their area of operation, 13 pedestrians were killed, 106 more were injured of varying severity. Among the injured were 15 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

There were also 30 accidents involving minors, in which 32 young road users were injured, including 14 passengers and two motor vehicle drivers. Two children who were transported as passengers of passenger vehicles were killed. Both car accidents occurred during the daytime.

So, in Yekaterinburg, a 50-year-old passenger car driver was distracted from driving for a short time and collided with an SUV moving in front of him in the same direction, after which he drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car driven by a 28-year-old motorist. Her five-year-old son died in the accident, who was in the back seat of his car in a child restraint, but was not wearing a seat belt. The female driver was referred for outpatient treatment after receiving medical treatment, and the culprit ended up in the hospital with injuries.

In the Tambov region, on 113 km of the Rasskazovo—Uvarovo—Muchkapsky regional highway, a 22-year-old car driver collided with a truck traveling in the same direction. As a result of the car accident, the son of the culprit of the collision, born in 2025, who was in the back seat in a child restraint device, died. The driver of the car and his other passenger were injured and were hospitalized.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more attentive and careful when driving. The life and health of other road users depend on driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior. The agency also drew the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children.

In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions. So, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, due to heavy snowfall, gusty winds, snowstorms and limited visibility, traffic has been stopped on the Norilsk-Norilsk Airport regional highway from 5 to 22 km since yesterday evening. In the Sakhalin Region, for the same reasons, traffic on the federal highway A-393 Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk — Okha from 436 to 572 km was temporarily stopped tonight.

In the Jewish Autonomous Region, due to snow and ice, temporary traffic restrictions were imposed for buses along the Amur highway R-297 from 1752 to 2103 km and on three other regional highways. This restriction has now been lifted.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that motorists, when planning long-distance trips, first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. In case of traffic restrictions or closure of road sections due to worsening weather, the relevant information is promptly posted on the website of the State Traffic Inspectorate, as well as on the official pages of the service units on social networks.

The ministry noted that as winter approaches, one should be extremely careful when driving: avoid sudden rash maneuvers and realignments on roads slippery from rain, snow or ice, observe the interval and distance between vehicles, and do not exceed the set speed. It is important to change the tires to winter tires in a timely manner.

"Also, do not forget that in conditions of insufficient visibility, you should move with external lighting devices turned on, be sure to use fog lights, if available, and during precipitation, reduce speed as much as possible and move with the alarm lights on. If the weather worsens, we advise car owners to refrain from using personal vehicles as much as possible, and in urban conditions, temporarily switch to public transport," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On November 1, it was reported that following the results of the first nine months of 2025, a decrease in road traffic accidents was recorded in the Russian Federation. The number of road accidents decreased by 2.4% (94.9 thousand cases), the number of dead — by 3.4% (10.1 thousand people), injured — by 3% (117.7 thousand people).
