The Russian Navy conducted joint exercises with the Myanmar Navy called Marumex-2025, which were held in the waters of the Andaman Sea. On November 18, the Russian Ministry of Defense published footage of the practical stage of this training.
"Together with the Navy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, we have worked out a number of episodes, including communication training, sailing together in the sea...> day and night time, practice on air and sea targets, practice firing anti—ship protection calculations, including low-flying targets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the aircraft type," said Andrei Litovchenko, senior assistant to the commander of the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov.
The ministry clarified that the Russian Navy was also represented in the exercise by the Gremyashchy corvette and the Boris Butoma tanker — all of these vessels belong to the Pacific Fleet squadron. The amphibious helicopter dock ship Muttama, the frigate Kyansitta, the corvette Tabinshwehti and the submarine Minye Theinkhathu were involved in practical activities from the Myanmar Navy.
The main purpose of the exercise, as emphasized by the Ministry of Defense, was the comprehensive development and strengthening of naval cooperation, as well as working out issues of ensuring the safety of civilian navigation and maritime economic activity.
The start of the Marumex-2025 military exercises became known on November 13, after the opening ceremony took place the day before in the port of Tilava. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Lieutenant General Alexei Kiyashko, welcomed the participants of the exercises, wished them fruitful work at sea, and also pointed out the willingness of the Russian side to share its experience and best practices with Myanmar.
