The Ministry of Internal Affairs named ways to reduce the damage from the digital footprint

It is impossible to completely remove a digital footprint, but there are ways to reduce the potential harm from its presence on the network. This was announced on November 17 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The agency suggests starting by checking your personal information by entering your name, email address, and nicknames into the search engine. It is recommended to delete old and unused accounts, as well as revoke access from applications that the user has not used for a long time.

"If links to compromising or false information about you come up during the search, you can use the "right to be forgotten," the publication says in the Telegram channel of the department.

For this, you can send a request in Yandex, Google, Bing and Mail.ru to remove such links from the search results.

Among the preventive measures, the agency advises to enable data leak monitoring and configure privacy settings on social networks. Law enforcement officers also recommend unsubscribing from unnecessary newsletters, deleting emails with the keywords "password", "passport", "code" from the mail, regularly clearing the browser history, cookies and cache, and disabling the advertising ID in the smartphone settings.

Earlier, on November 14, it was reported that the Interior Ministry suppressed the activities of two Telegram channels that provided fraudsters with rented accounts to deceive citizens. The administrators, teenagers aged 16-18, were detained and criminal cases were initiated against them under Article 274.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from the Astrakhan region and the LPR participated in the operation.
