Famous Moldovan screenwriter and director Nicolai Gibu has died at the age of 88. This was reported on November 17 by the portal Noi.md .

"The famous Moldovan screenwriter and director Nicolai Gibu has passed away. It was a legendary director," the publication says.

Gibu directed a number of popular films, including "Anger", "Memory Notches", "Code name "Southern Thunder", "Root of Life", "Your Special Correspondent". His films starred such masters of cinema as Oleg Yankovsky, Vladislav Dvorzhetsky and Klara Luchko.

The director was born on November 19, 1936 in the village of Ozernoye in the Kiliysky district of the Odessa region. In 1966, he graduated from the script department of the VGIK (workshop of K. Paramonova and V. Yezhov). After graduation, he worked as a screenwriter and editor of the Moldovan SSR Cinematography Committee, and from 1970 to 2009 he was a director and screenwriter at the Moldova Film studio. He was also the author of books and articles about Moldovan cinema.
