Patrushev announced Russia's readiness to provide India with shipbuilding projects
Russia is ready to offer India comprehensive shipbuilding projects, including the creation of specialized vessels and the development of port infrastructure. This was stated on November 17 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, at a meeting with Sarbananda Sonoval, Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
"We can offer New Delhi interesting initiatives in the field of shipbuilding, including providing existing or developing new projects for fishing, passenger, and auxiliary vessels," Patrushev said.
During the meeting, the Russian presidential aide also proposed the creation of joint shipbuilding and ship repair clusters in such important economic regions of India as Mumbai and Chennai. Patrushev noted that Russia has extensive experience in building specialized ice-class vessels and icebreakers, where the country is a world leader.
Special attention was paid to cooperation in the field of "green" shipbuilding, which corresponds to India's priorities in the maritime sector. The Russian side proposed to create a joint database of unified shipbuilding projects, which will allow India to significantly reduce the cost of fleet renewal.
Patrushev also announced plans to create a National Research Center based on the Krylov Scientific Research Center for Shipbuilding in St. Petersburg. In addition, he invited Indian partners to study the experience of implementing the digital shipyards project at the Nevsky Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant.
The Economic Times newspaper reported on November 10 that Moscow and New Delhi plan to sign an agreement on labor mobility during the upcoming Russian-Indian summit to be held in India in December. According to the newspaper, the document is intended to simplify labor migration and will contribute to the growth of the number of Indian citizens working in Russia in the coming years.
Before that, on October 27, The Economic Times reported that Russia retained its position as the largest supplier of crude oil to India, providing a third of the country's total imports.
