In the Ukrainian Villages of the Cherkasy region, supporters of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) seized the Transfiguration Cathedral of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). This was reported on November 17 on the website of the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).

"After Sunday liturgy, a group of men in balaclavas and yellow armbands entered the church. <...> The head of the group was the "dean" of the OCU. After the believers of the UOC were expelled from the temple, a group of militants began an inventory of property," the article says.

The rector of the cathedral, Archpriest Oleg Markhilevich, was threatened into signing an act of acceptance and transfer of the temple. The Transfiguration Church is a monument of national heritage and is on the balance sheet of the state, the article clarifies.

Earlier, on November 11, in Cherkasy, the church of the icon "Chernobyl Savior" came under the control of the OCU community. The parishioners of the UOC claim that they were not allowed into the building and were actually forced out of it. It is reported that the community was previously re-registered from the UOC to the OCU, however, according to representatives of the UOC, the decision was made without a meeting of believers.
