Autumn is the time when vitamin D levels decrease. Melancholy, apathy, drowsiness — everything affects the body, skin and hair condition. Anna Averkina, a BioFoods brand trichologist, told Izvestia on November 18 about how to stop hair loss.

"With decreasing daylight hours, the circadian rhythms (internal biological clock) change in the body: the shorter the daylight hours, the more melatonin is produced. The body takes this as a signal to rest, and all active processes slow down, including hair growth. We get vitamin D, which is involved in the growth cycles of hair follicles, from food and under the influence of ultraviolet rays," she said.

In the autumn, sunlight is significantly reduced, as is vitamin production. When it is deficient, the hair roots weaken, and the microcirculation of the scalp deteriorates. It is also important to note that vitamin D is involved in the activation of keratinocytes, cells that regulate the creation and repair of keratin, the main building material of hair. Therefore, many people notice thinning hair and brittleness with the change of daylight.

"To maintain vitamin levels, foods such as salmon, mackerel, herring, cod liver, egg yolk, and cheeses should be included in the diet. Long walks, fluorescent lamps, supplements, vitamins are also important," the specialist added.

In addition, iron and zinc levels often decrease in autumn. Without these trace elements, the hair weakens. The lack of both elements has a dramatic negative effect on their condition. When the body does not get enough iron from food, the body begins to consume its own resources, that is, ferritin.

Ferritin performs the function of storing iron in the body and regulates the growth of hair shafts, entering the bulbs. When there is a shortage or excess of iron, the structure of the rods collapses. If the level of iron in the body becomes very low, all tissues, including hair follicles, become oxidized, microcirculation is disrupted, and body tissues experience hypoxia. Zinc is the second important trace element after iron in the body, affecting the condition of the hair. This trace element participates in the biosynthesis of collagen and keratin. If keratin production fails in the body, hair grows thin and brittle, the expert emphasized.

Autumn apathy is often associated with changes in hormone levels, including cortisol, which affects the overall condition of the body. Chronically high cortisol levels lead to increased hair breakage and decreased growth rate. The weather also affects our condition: in cold weather, we move less and stay at home more. Because of this, fatigue appears, mood decreases, and along with it, immunity. As a result, blood circulation and nutrition of the hair follicles deteriorate.

Walking outdoors, sports and activities improve blood circulation and strengthen the immune system, proper sleep, reduce caffeine and sugar intake, give up bad habits, include foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fish, nuts, flax seeds) in the diet, they help improve skin condition, and therefore affect growth hair.

Dermatologist, cosmetologist, trichologist Yana Shatskaya told on October 30 how to remove age-related pigmentation. At home, care with low-concentration acids (glycolic, almond, lactic), products with niacinamide, vitamin C or arbutin is acceptable.
