- The political scientist admitted the participation of the European Union and the United States in corruption scandals in Ukraine
Large-scale corruption in Ukraine would not have been possible without cover from the United States and the European Union (EU). Yevgeny Minchenko, head of the Minchenko Consulting communications holding, expressed this opinion on Monday, November 17, commenting on the statement by Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) about the role of high-ranking Westerners in the corruption scandal in Ukraine.
According to the expert, Kolomoisky knows these people very well, who in the past were his small-time employees, including President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
"He roughly understands both the managerial potential of each of these characters and the elite alignment. In my opinion, large—scale corruption in Ukraine would not have been possible without the cover of certain individuals in the leadership of the United States of America, the leadership of the United Kingdom and the European Union," Minchenko said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Earlier, on November 16, Kolomoisky said that the corruption scheme in Ukraine was not developed by entrepreneur Timur Mindich, RT reports.
Kolomoisky noted that Mindich did not have the capabilities to create such complex mechanisms, IA Regnum reports. The oligarch stressed that the scheme was invented by higher-ranking figures who subsequently "framed" the entrepreneur.
Kolomoisky on the same day predicted the end of Zelensky's political career after a corruption scandal in the energy sector, reports NSN.
The Financial Times (FT) newspaper said on November 15 that the corruption scandal in Ukraine had dealt one of the most sensitive blows to the Ukrainian leadership and personally to the president of the country. According to the newspaper, Zelensky is trying to distance himself from the defendants in the case, especially from his longtime friend and ally Mindich, but this, according to analysts, is unlikely to fix the situation.
On the same day, Politico reported that senior Ukrainian officials were trying to reassure their Western partners. As the situation began to deteriorate rapidly, the Ukrainian authorities announced a number of high-profile government resignations and personnel changes at state-owned energy companies. Thus, Kiev seeks to demonstrate to its allies that it is able to quickly restore order within the governing structures.
