Russia sees Mongolia as a close friend and reliable strategic partner in Asia and intends to develop joint projects in key areas. This was stated on November 17 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with Head of the Mongolian Cabinet of Ministers Gombozhavyn Zandanshatar on the sidelines of a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

"Mongolia is our strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Our relations are based on long-standing and traditional friendship and mutual support of the peoples of Russia and Mongolia... We are creating favorable conditions for promoting, first of all, strategic projects in the energy sector, industry, transport, and humanitarian relations," Mishustin said.

The head of government also noted that regular contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Mongolian counterpart Uhnaagiin Khurelsukh confirm "mutual interest in further deepening Russian-Mongolian multifaceted cooperation." He asked Zandanshatar to convey greetings to the leader of Mongolia "from Putin and from himself personally."

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation emphasized the active work of the intergovernmental commission and expressed the hope that it would soon have a co-chairman from the Mongolian side.

"We propose to hold a regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Ulaanbaatar before the end of the year, subject to an agreement with you on the date," Mishustin added.

Earlier, on September 5, Zandanshatar announced that the government of the country would provide full support to the Power of Siberia–2 project. According to the Prime Minister of Mongolia, this project will open up new economic horizons for all participants.

On the same day, Zandanshatar called the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) an important mechanism for dialogue in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). The Prime Minister noted that Ulaanbaatar is interested in expanding trade, investment and economic ties, especially with the countries of East and Southeast Asia. He said that over the past three years, the country's economy has grown by an average of 6%, which has contributed to the stability of the region.
