Rosatom supplied equipment for the ITER project in France
A solemn ceremony was held in France for the arrival of key Russian equipment from Rosatom Corporation for the implementation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project. This was reported on November 17 by Izvestia.
Rosatom has delivered the first of four Russian test benches, which is designed for vacuum, thermal and functional tests of port plug-ins (key diagnostic elements of the future installation).
The director of the ITER Center separately noted that this installation was manufactured at one of the factories in Bryansk, despite the difficulties that the frontline city is facing today.
"The most important thing is that for us this is the first stand in the entire delivery, we have been working on it for a very long time. <...> We only have to put up four stands for the international organization ITER, and we are glad that we delivered on time in 2025, as promised," said the director of the ITER project office, NPO LLC "GKMP" by Olesya Solovyov.
Anatoly Krasilnikov, director of the ITER Center, emphasized that the temperature of thermonuclear plasma on Earth is 10 times higher than the temperature in the Sun. To reach such a temperature, the plasma must be clean enough — this requires equipment that will not allow air to escape from the atmosphere. The Russian installation is necessary to test the vacuum density of the equipment that will be manufactured for the tokamak, Krasilnikov explained.
"Excellent cooperation with the Russian Federation and Rosatom at the highest level, but especially valuable are all the efforts made by Russia in the framework of agnostic efforts, to which it really makes a special contribution. Many thanks to all of you, thank you for the opportunity to be here, and we really appreciate these great efforts," said Sergio Orlandi, head of the ITER construction project.
Earlier, on August 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is at the forefront of science and technology in the field of thermonuclear fusion. He added that young people, like all generations of Rosatom specialists, can achieve any of the most difficult goals that involve the potential of the country's nuclear industry.
