The media learned about Germany's lifting of restrictions on arms exports to Israel
Germany has decided to lift the arms embargo on Israel from the end of November. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on November 17.
"Government spokesman Stefan Cornelius announced that the export restrictions imposed in August by Chancellor Friedrich Merz in response to accusations of war crimes against Israel will no longer apply," the material says.
Cornelius also noted diplomatic efforts to "achieve lasting peace" in the Gaza Strip and Germany's increased humanitarian assistance to civilians in the Palestinian enclave.
It is clarified that in the period from August 8 to September 12, Berlin did not issue any export permits of any kind — this is a more extensive freeze than implied in the statement by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the publication notes.
In addition, Berlin plans to return to the individual evaluation of applications for the supply of weapons, while continuing to support efforts to help refugees and rebuild Gaza.
Earlier, on October 30, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his position on Israeli military actions in Gaza, accusing the country of ignorance of the scale of genocide and attacks on the Palestinian enclave. It was clarified that Merz had declared the German government's support for Israel since the attack by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas. In his opinion, Israel is exercising its right to self-defense.
