Germany needs to return to using Russian gas and repair the Nord Stream gas pipelines, says Tino Fragalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. He stated this on the air of the Servus TV channel, published on the YouTube channel.

"[It is necessary] to return to Russian gas. That is, to repair both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. It was a vital artery for Germany. And when I constantly hear: "We are becoming dependent" <...> Germany and probably Austria too <...> We have no minerals, we have neither oil nor gas. We always depend on someone," the politician said.

At the same time, he pointed out that due to the "energy transformation and sanctions against Russia," Germany has been facing an economic recession for the third year in a row.

"Thyssengroup is currently cutting 11,000 jobs," Fragalla gave an example.

In addition, the AfG co-chairman points out that Germany currently has the most expensive electricity in Europe, which is why many entrepreneurs refuse to locate production facilities in the country.

"Our electricity costs 40 cents per kilowatt hour. It is more expensive than anyone else in Europe, probably in the world," says Fragalla.

On the same day, the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, said that the Russian-German dialogue could be restored in the future, and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would become one of the key elements. He recalled that Russia has remained a reliable supplier for decades, while alternative purchases, including American and Qatari fuel, are more expensive.

Prior to that, on September 4, Niemeyer said that the conclusion of a direct agreement between Russia and Germany on the Nord Stream gas pipeline would be more in the interests of Germany than Russia. According to him, American investor Stephen Lynch showed interest in buying the pipeline. And if the deal had taken place, Germany would have been forced to buy Russian gas at very inflated prices.
