- The United States has warned of the possibility of a "new Vietnam" in the invasion of Venezuela
The US invasion of Venezuela could turn into a "new Vietnam" for the American side. This was announced on November 17 by an officer in the Brazilian Navy reserve and analyst Robinson Farinazu.
"Do I consider an American invasion possible? Yes," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, the United States would hardly be able to gain a foothold in Venezuela. He stressed that such a scenario could turn into a "new Vietnam" for the United States.
Farinazu explained that Venezuela is a large country with a population of millions, a well-developed militia and well-armed regular forces.
Earlier, on November 14, it was reported that the United States justified attacks on allegedly drug-carrying Venezuelan vessels with the threat of using chemical weapons, including fentanyl. The military operation, launched in September, drew criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans.
On November 16, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of leading the Los Soles drug cartel and said the State Department intended to recognize the group as a foreign terrorist organization. Later, US President Donald Trump announced that he could hold talks with the head of Venezuela.
