The Ministry of Education and Science announced the terms of study in the new system of universities

The duration of studies under the new higher education system, to which Russian universities will begin to switch in the 2026-2027 academic year, will depend on the field of study. On November 16, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reported that the deadline would not be uniform and would be determined by "the time required for high-quality training of specialists."

The ministry stressed that five-year programs are provided for engineers, doctors and teachers, while four-year programs will operate in the tourism and hospitality industries. For the most complex and high-tech areas, the study period will be increased to six years.

"The variability of the terms of higher education will allow us to find a balance between the demands of the market, the standards of high—quality fundamental education and the interests of the students themselves," the ministry noted.

Experts note a noticeable increase in the interest of schoolchildren and a shortage of technical staff.

Earlier, on November 13, it was reported that the Ministry of Education and Science does not plan to completely ban admission to paid places in universities where the average USE score of applicants is below 50. The innovations will affect only about 10% of specialties and will apply to those areas that are included in a special government list. The ministry clarified that the new rules will improve the quality of higher education, make it more relevant to the needs of economics and technology, and ensure that graduates will be able to find work in their specialty.
