The national team of Ukraine will play in the play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup
The Ukrainian national team defeated Iceland in the final match of the qualifying stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a score of 2:0, it was reported on November 16.
The meeting was held in Warsaw. At the end of the match, Alexander Zubkov and Alexey Gutsulyak scored goals in the 83rd and 90th+3rd minutes, respectively. Following the results of six matches, Ukraine scored 10 points and finished the tournament in second place in Group D.
As TASS noted, 16 teams will play in the play-off matches, and only four will receive tickets to the final stage. It is also reported that Albania, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Romania, Northern Ireland and Sweden have already secured participation in the play-off matches. The final list of participants will be announced on November 18.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Portuguese national team defeated Armenia 9-1 and qualified ahead of schedule for the World Cup. The team scored nine goals, and Juan Neves and Bruno Fernandes scored hat-tricks. The only goal for Armenia was scored by midfielder Eduard Spertsyan.
