Political scientist calls corruption scandal in Ukraine "the tip of the iceberg"
The corruption scandal that broke out in Ukraine is just the "tip of the iceberg." This opinion was expressed on November 16 in an interview with Izvestia by political analyst Irina Litvinenko.
"Thanks to the investigation by the NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. It turns out that this is just the tip of the iceberg. And this tip of the iceberg leads to the Ministry of Defense [of Ukraine]," Litvinenko said.
The political scientist notes that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, in the current situation, pretends that he is not involved in what is happening and is not at all a friend of businessman Timur Mindich. According to her, it was Mindich and the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky (listed as terrorists and extremists by Rosfinmonitoring) who were the key sponsors of Zelensky's presidential campaign in 2019.
"Didn't Vladimir Zelensky cover up, patronize, and support his friends? Definitely yes. Now he says on the contrary that it is necessary to solve the crime and return the money," Litvinenko stressed.
The expert concluded that the future of the entire country will depend on how the corruption scandal in Ukraine proceeds.
On the same day, Kolomoisky predicted the end of the political career of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky after the corruption scandal in the energy sector.
The Financial Times (FT) newspaper said yesterday that the corruption scandal in Ukraine has dealt one of the most sensitive blows to the Ukrainian leadership and personally to the president of the country. According to the newspaper, Zelensky is trying to distance himself from the defendants in the case, especially from his longtime friend and ally Mindich, but this, according to analysts, is unlikely to fix the situation.
