Montenegro will send its military to Ukraine to train the Armed Forces
On November 16, the Parliament of Montenegro agreed to send its military to Ukraine in order to train soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"At the end of last week, the Parliament of Montenegro adopted a resolution on sending military personnel to participate in the NATO mission to train the Ukrainian army and provide it with security assistance. 44 deputies voted for him, including those considered pro—Russian by the Democratic Front party, whose leader is Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic," the Kommersant newspaper reports.
It is noted that not everyone approved of this decision. Vladislav Bojovic, a deputy from the Democratic People's Party, voted against the adoption of the resolution, warning about the deterioration of relations between Montenegro and Russia. A similar warning was also issued by the Russian Ambassador to Podgorica, Alexander Lukashik.
"The Montenegrin leadership continues to stubbornly follow the Western line of increasing tension with Russia, which only strengthens its status as an unfriendly state towards Moscow," he said.
Earlier, on November 1, the Russian ambassador said that Montenegro's policy of curtailing relations with Russia in order to accelerate its accession to the European Union (EU) was counterproductive and detrimental to the republic itself. Lukasik noted that Russia has never opposed Montenegro's accession to the EU, but considers it a mistake to do so at the cost of breaking with Moscow.
