- Naryshkin declared the inadmissibility of reviewing the role of the USSR in defeating Nazism.
Russia will not allow the USSR's key role in defeating Nazi Germany to be questioned. This was stated on November 16 by the chairman of the Russian Historical Society (RIO), director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"We will never allow the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the victory over Nazi Germany and the heroism of the soldiers and officers of the Red Army to be questioned," he stressed.
Naryshkin recalled that the decisions taken in Nuremberg became the legal basis for the creation of the United Nations. He noted that key international documents have been developed within the framework of the United Nations — the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, conventions on the elimination of racism, on the prevention of genocide and apartheid.
At the same time, according to Naryshkin, over the past two decades, the positive potential of the United Nations has been under pressure from "globalist circles of the totalitarian-liberal regimes of the West."
Earlier, on November 14, the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly approved a resolution submitted by Russia on combating the glorification of Nazism and modern forms of racial discrimination. The document was supported by 114 states, while 52 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan and Ukraine, voted against. Another 12 delegations abstained.
On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of culture in countering Russophobia and neo-Nazism. According to him, pride in the generation of winners in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) has become an integral and significant part of culture. He stressed that historical events in Russia to this day are embodied in works of art and educate young people.
