Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, the party's energy policy expert Steffen Cotre expressed hope for positive developments in Germany's relations with the BRICS countries. He stated this on November 15 at the II BRICS-Europe International Symposium, which is being held in Sochi.

"Germany could be a partner for the BRICS countries and participate in these processes (of cooperation. — Ed.). I hope that in the coming years, in a few years, we will be able to talk about positive developments, changes in all situations in our relations," TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier, on November 14, Cotre said that due to the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, Germany was forced to buy oil and gas at twice the prices, which was detrimental to the welfare of the country. He noted that it is possible to purchase energy resources from other places, while "it is completely absurd to receive Russian gas through Kazakhstan or Russian oil through India," which, according to him, is happening. This practice leads to a situation where Germany is forced to "lose its wealth" and pay twice as much for energy resources.

The grand opening of the II BRICS–Europe International Symposium took place earlier that day in Sochi. Alexey Gromyko, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that BRICS is a research laboratory for improving the effectiveness of global governance and regulation mechanisms. According to him, the relocation of the center of world politics and economics to Eurasia contributed to the rapid development of BRICS.
