- FT has learned about the accusation by US intelligence of Alibaba for working for the Chinese military
The Chinese corporation Alibaba Group supplied the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) with technologies and data that could be used in operations against facilities in the United States. This was reported on November 15 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, referring to a White House memorandum based on declassified information from American intelligence.
According to the newspaper, Washington's conclusions reflect the growing concern about Chinese cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) systems and the risks of Beijing's access to confidential information in the United States.
According to the document dated November 1, Alibaba provided Chinese military and government agencies with access to user data: IP addresses, Wi-Fi information, payment data, as well as a range of AI services. In addition, according to intelligence data, the PLA received information from the company about "zero-day vulnerabilities," that is, about critical failures or malware for which protective mechanisms have not yet been created.
An American official, responding to an FT request, stressed that the US administration takes these threats very seriously and is working "day and night" to reduce the current and potential risks and consequences of cyber attacks using unreliable suppliers.
Earlier, on October 24, The Times newspaper reported that Chinese operatives allegedly actively use "sexual warfare" methods to gain access to trade secrets and technological secrets of American companies. It was noted that Chinese agents most often choose companies associated with start-ups funded by the Pentagon.
